Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask most about using AI Directory.

Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Each one links to a longer article where there is one.

Using the site

Is AI Directory free to use?

Yes. You can browse, search and read every tool page without an account or payment.

Do I need an account?

Not to browse. Sign-in, with Google, is only for the few features that need to know who you are. See Your account and privacy.

How do I find a tool for a specific job?

Search with plain words for the task, then narrow by category and price. Full steps are in How to find the right AI tool.

What's the difference between a category and a tag?

Categories are the main fixed shelves. Tags are looser labels. See Categories and tags.

Why are some categories empty?

The directory is still growing. Some categories exist but don't have tools yet. Try a related category or the search box.

How are tools sorted?

Newest first by default, or A to Z if you choose it. Featured tools are pinned to the top in both cases.

About the listings

Does AI Directory test every tool?

No. A listing means the tool exists and fits the directory. It isn't a review or a recommendation. See How to read a tool page.

What does the "Featured" label mean?

The owner paid for promoted placement. Featured tools are pinned to the top and clearly labeled. The label does not mean we tested the tool or rate it higher.

Are the prices on the site current?

They may not be. Companies change plans often. Always check the tool's own pricing page. See Pricing labels explained.

Why do some links go through aidirectory.website/go?

It's a short redirect we use for some outbound links. It sends you on to the tool's site. It's normal.

Is it safe to use the tools you list?

We can't promise that. Each tool is run by another company with its own policies. Follow the habits in Using AI tools safely.

Understanding AI

What do terms like LLM, RAG and MCP mean?

See the AI terms glossary.

Can I trust what an AI tool tells me?

Not blindly. AI can sound sure while being wrong. Check anything that matters against a reliable source.

Which category should I look in for my task?

The category guides explain each group: writing, images and video, audio, coding, business, data and documents, everyday life and building with AI.

Problems and contact

A tool's website is down or the information is wrong. What do I do?

Tell us, with a link to the tool page. See Report a problem or contact us.

I have trouble signing in.

Try the steps in Troubleshooting.

How do I contact you?

Email [email protected] or use the contact form.

Can I suggest a tool or a category?

Yes, please. Send us the name, website and what it does, and we'll look at it.
