About Zed
Zed is a code editor made by some of the people who built Atom. It is written in Rust and is known for starting instantly and staying responsive on large projects. AI is part of the editor from the start instead of being bolted on later.
You can chat with models about your code, ask for inline edits, and use an agent that works across files while you follow along. Zed lets you choose among hosted models or connect your own, including local ones, and it supports external tools through MCP.
The editor is free to download and open source, and a paid plan adds hosted AI usage. It is a nice pick for developers who care about speed and want AI without the weight of a heavier IDE.
