Windsurf is an AI code editor that grew out of Codeium. Its main idea is that the assistant and the developer share the same workspace, so the AI sees what you are editing, what you ran in the terminal and what changed recently. That context makes its suggestions feel less random. The core feature is Cascade, an agent that can search your project, write code across files and run commands, then explain what it did. For smaller moments there is fast autocomplete and inline editing, so you can use as much or as little of the agent as you like. There is a free plan for light use and paid tiers with more credits and stronger models. Windsurf is a good fit if you want an editor that leans toward autonomous help but still lets you step in at any point.
